Established in 1975, elephant orphanage in Pinnawala is a rescue centre for elephants that offers you an ample of opportunities to enjoy the company of elephants. The place is home to nearly 100 elephants who have been rescued from the wilderness. Spanning over a 25-acre coconut property adjoining Maha Oya river, the place rehabilitates rescued elephants until their ready to live in the wilderness on their own. Watch them a bath at the river nearby playing with water. The sight of them following each other to the river across the road is an incredible sight you will cherish forever. Capture them playing with mud and with one another while bathing. Feed them with tropical fruits after their bath and pat them on their trunks. Furry little jumbos are the cutest who you can bottle feed milk.
